Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar on Thursday reiterated the government’s resolve that maintenance of law and order is the responsibility of police and rapists involved in Motorway incident will not be let get off scotch-free.
Earlier, the governor met newly-posted Punjab IG Police Inam Ghani. While talking to the media, Chaudhry Sarwar said that he has discussed Motorway rape case and other matters regarding law and order in the province with the Punjab IG Police.
He said that he has directed the IGP to expedite inquiry into the Motorway rape case so that justice can be delivered to the victim family without any delay.
According to details, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar met with Punjab IG Police Inam Ghani at Governor House. The police chief apprised him of the development in Motorway rape case and other steps taken to maintain law and order in the province. The governor instructed the IG to take measures for ensuring provision of justice in police stations.
Talking to media on the occasion of Ehsas scholarships distribution, the Punjab governor said that the appointment and transfer of IG or any other position is the prerogative of the Federal Government and Chief Executive of the province but rest assured that all decisions are being taken as per the law and constitution.
Our government is eliminating political interference from all organizations. Responding to a question regarding the return of Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan, the Punjab governor said that the judiciary has given its verdict regarding this matter.
Repatriation of Nawaz Sharif will be done following the constitutional laws because the PTI government believes in the supremacy of the constitution.
Answering a question about opposition’s APCs, the governor said that protest is the right of opposition. Calling an APC is the democratic right but my suggestion to the opposition is to not indulge in the politics of protest. We have been given 5-year mandate by the public and we will complete our term as per the constitution.
He said that both PML-N and PPP have completed their terms and now it is our constitutional right to complete our term. The opposition should wait for the general elections of 2023. We will accept whatever decision the public takes in the next elections.
Addressing the Ehsas Scholarships distribution ceremony, Governor Punjab said that we are ensuring meritocracy in the universities of Punjab.
All the Vice-Chancellors have been appointed on merit and we are taking practical steps for improvements in Higher Education as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Governor Punjab said that the whole world is commending Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Ehsaas initiative.
Pakistan will continue to progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, he added.
