NIMA holds seminar on Kashmir dispute

On conclusion of 5 years of illegal revocation of article 370 & 35A by the Government of India, the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) held a seminar titled “Kashmir Dispute: Latest Imperatives and Way Forward,” on 08 August, 2024. The seminar was aimed at analyzing the Kashmir dispute in historical, legal and humanitarian perspectives to develop a comprehensive way forward. Ms. Mushaal Hussein Mullick, a renowned human rights activist and former SAPM on human rights and women empowerment graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event featured distinguished speakers, including Ambassador Nadeem Riyaz, Mr. Altaf Hussain Wani, Advocate Mr. Ahmer Bilal Soofi, Dr. Asma Shakir Khawaja, Barrister Taimur Malik and students from various think-tanks and universities.

The speakers stressed upon the need to construct an effective legal narrative on Kashmir to engage global audience as well as youth using established media houses to advance the Kashmir cause. Ms. Mullick highlighted the continued human rights violations that are taking place in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir. She proposed to establish a legal cell in the foreign office in order to provide consistency in Kashmir policies. The event successfully brought together scholars, policy makers, activists and legal experts to ponder and proffer suggestions in this regard.
