The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) organized a seminar on World Maritime Day 2024, themed “Navigating the Future: Safety First,” at Bahria University Karachi. The speakers emphasized the critical importance of maritime safety, security, and sustainability in the ever-evolving global maritime industry.

Cdre (Retd) Ovais Hyder SI(M) Director NIMA welcomed all the guests. The special messages of Admiral Naveed Ashraf NI(M) T Bt, CNS & IMO Secretary General Mr. Arsenio Dominguez on the occasion were readout. A total of five papers were presented by leading experts in the maritime fields ranging from sustainable shipping, fishing practices to smart technologies in port operations. Mr. Khurram Mirza from PNSC, Mr. M Moazzam Khan from WWF-Pakistan, Mr. Javed Iqbal from Shoaib Shipping, Ms. Noor-ul-Saba from Scuba Club Karachi and Mr. Malik Babar Rashid from KPT shared insightful perspective on enhancing safety, efficiency, and environmental conservation.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Dewan Rizwan Farooqui, Chairman of Pakistan Ship Breakers Recycling Association, underscored the importance of a sustainable and efficient maritime industry and its role in the global economy.
In the end, after Q&A Session, Note of Thanks was presented by Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmed Saeed HI(M). In addition, a stall was also established by NIMA at Pakistan Maritime Museum to showcase its research publications on different maritime sectors. The stall was visited by a large number students and general public.
