ISLAMABAD – A new development emerged in the controversial tweets case against Advocate Imaan Mazari and Advocate Hadi Ali Chattha as a senior bar representative decided to join the legal proceedings on Thursday.
During the hearing, Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka asked about the progress on the Section 342 questionnaire. Advocate Hadi Ali Chattha informed the court that the defence had not received a copy of the statement. Judge Majoka remarked that he would have the Section 342 statement typed and handed over to the defence by 10am.
The court then took a break until 10am. When the hearing resumed, Islamabad Bar Association President Naeem Ali Gujar submitted his power of attorney and appeared on behalf of Mazari and Chattha, who were both present in court.
In an informal exchange with the judge, Gujar asked, “Welcome back, sir. How was your trip? You have returned looking even better than before.”
Advocate Gujar later filed an application on behalf of Mazari and Chattha seeking restoration of their right to cross-examination.
He requested additional time, assuring the court that the defence would fully assist in the proceedings.
Judge Majoka remarked that in the Musharraf case, the Supreme Court had already clarified that if an accused repeatedly fails to appear, the trial may proceed in their absence.
Chattha informed the court that the defence also intended to file an application seeking the transfer of the case from the current court.
The court then adjourned the proceedings until 11am.
