Chairman of the World Seraiki Congress, Dr. Ghazanfar Mehdi has said that the provincial units would have to be redefined to strengthen the federation of Pakistan. He said this while addressing a meeting of the Board of Governors of the World Seraiki Congress here on Saturday.
Representatives of Hazara Committee, Mansehra and Potohar Chakwal attended the meeting. Dr. Ghazanfar Mehdi said that the first demand of Seraiki province was made by Makhdoom Sajjad Hussain Qureshi in National Assembly in Dhaka session and Nawabzada Ghulam Qasim Khan Khakwani in the West Pakistan Assembly, Lahore. He said that all the leaders from Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto were in favor of the establishment of these provinces.
The political party ANP had made the creation of Seraiki province part of its manifesto. Later, Amir of Bahawalpur Nawab Muhammad Abbas Khan Abbasi, Syed Muhammad Kasur Gardezi and Pir Hissan Uddin Rashidi and Mir Ghaus Bakhsh Bazinju supported Seraiki province in various gatherings. The meeting appealed Prime Minister Imran Khan to convene a meeting of leaders of various political parties in Parliament on this important issue.
The meeting passed various resolutions calling for setting up offices of Federal and Provincial Public Service Commissions in Multan, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan and Dera Ismail Khan. The second resolution called for these areas, which have been neglected for the last 72 years, to be represented in the Senate of Pakistan.
They condoled the sad demise of eminent intellectual Prof. Shaukat Mughal and offered Fatiha for his departed soul. The participants also prayed for the speedy recovery of Khawaja Moinuddin Mehboob Korija Sajjada Nashien Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Farid Kot Mithan who is admitted in City Hospital, Lahore for his treatment of Cancer.
