Federal Capital’s new police chief, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Qazi Jamilur Rehman since taking charge of the office has been issuing statements and receiving visitors who come to congratulate him on becoming IGP.
It seems the new top cop of Islamabad is more interested in media publicity than taking concrete steps for eradication of crime in the city.
Only two days after a meeting with media persons, he held yet another meeting with them on Thursday repeating the same old things, his future plans and vision, etc.
Likewise while chairing a meeting at Central Police Office (CPO) on Friday the IGP shared his vision of crime-free Islamabad, rhetoric again, by the way.
According to a press release issued by the police department the IGP in the said meeting assigned the task to all police officials to make capital “crime free” city and ensure safety to the lives of people through high vigilance.
He also directed effective policing measures in the city, said the statement adding the police chief had also directed complete investigation of all pending cases and constituted special teams for raids in other provinces to ensure arrest of criminals at large.
The meeting was attended among others by DIG (Operations) Waqar Uddin Syed, SSP (Operations), SP (Investigation) Zonal SPs, SDPOs, DSP (CIA) and other police officials.
The IGP was briefed about the security, law and order and overall steps to curb crime in the city. DIG (Operations) said that those criminals involved in heinous crimes have been arrested and efforts are underway to ensure strict action against street criminals and anti-social elements.
The press release goes on to say that the IGP said all SPs should curb crime in their respective areas and brief their subordinates while assigning tasks to them.
The IGP also directed cordoning certain areas from time to time and conduct snap checking in various locations, said the statement adding the inspector general ordered to enhance patrolling in urban as well as rural areas of the city and conduct intelligence based search operations to ensure success.
He urged the police force to accomplish responsibilities with dedication and professional manner.
Those involved in indecent and irresponsible attitudes would not be tolerated the IGP said, adding that those showing good performance would be encouraged. While talking to Pakistan Observer a former IGP of Islamabad requesting not to be named said one could only wish he also meant what he said. He wished Islamabad under the new police IGP as he has a vast and diverse experience and would regain its former peace and tranquility that once used to be the city’s unique character.
