Chairman of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) Col (R) Dr Amirullah Marwat on Tuesday presented the Annual Report of the commission to President Dr Arif Alvi, at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The Director General NCHD Hassan Baig was also present on the occasion. The NCHD Annual Report highlights the progress of programmes in Universalization of Primary Education through its 5,949 Feeder Schools across Pakistan by providing access facilities to about 315,100 out of school children.
NCHD has also enrolled about 50,000 illiterates in 2000 Adult Literacy Centers established across Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistan Human Development Fund (PHDF). The centers provided them with the skills of reading, writing in Urdu/English and taught them solving simple arithmetic.
NCHD is also considered a lead agency for Literacy. It has also participated in the Government campaigns of green and clean Pakistan via its registered 37000 volunteers across Pakistan. During the meeting the Chairman NCHD informed the President about the mandate of the commission and its international commitments on education, alleviation of poverty, imparting contemporary education in religious seminaries nation-wide and playing its pivotal role in enrollment of 22.5 million out of school children by supporting the education department through NCHD District officers across Pakistan. The president also commended the NCHD projects and assured his full support to the Organization as Patron in chief in delivering its valuable services as per its mandate conferred upon it by the constitution of the Country for the uplift of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in the country. He also emphasized bridging the gap between the poor and the rich through people friendly policies and ensuring their implementation in true letter and spirit.
