LAHORE – The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is conducting a forensic analysis of the mobile phones of cricketers Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan as part of an ongoing investigation.
Sources said the investigation is primarily focused on financial matters and suspected transactions, with the players’ financial activities before and after the England series also being examined.
The bank account details of both cricketers are also being scrutinised, according to sources. Investigators are reviewing transactions made during the relevant period to determine the sources of funds and the recipients of transferred amounts.
Suspicious payments allegedly made by any company, individual or organisation are also being examined as part of the investigation.
The NCCIA is linking data retrieved from the players’ mobile phones with the financial investigation. Messages, contacts and other digital information are also undergoing forensic analysis.
Another key aspect of the investigation is the alleged leakage of dressing-room information during the England series, sources said.
Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan appeared before the NCCIA Lahore office on Thursday and sought additional time to respond to questions, according to sources.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had earlier taken custody of the cricketers’ mobile phones and handed them over to the relevant authorities for examination, sources added.
