Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif’s mother Begum Shamim Akhtar was buried in Jati Umra beside her husband Mian Muhammad Sharif on Saturday. Funeral prayer was offered for Begum Shamim Akhtar, at Sharif Medical Complex in the city.
Funeral prayer was attended by Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Pervez Malik, Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Farooq Haider, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Rana Mashhood Ali Khan and other leaders. Funeral prayer was led by Mufti Ragheb Naeemi.
Begum Shamim Akhtar’s funeral prayer was offered at the Central Mosque in London yesterday. Under Corona SOPs, 30 people were allowed to attend the funeral prayers. In London Hassan Nawaz, Ishaq Dar, his son Ali Dar and close relatives were present in the funeral prayer.
Responding a question Minister Interior Syed Ijaz Shah said, “If Nawaz Sharif did not come for his mother, how and why will he come at our request”?
Earlier, the dead body of Begum Shamim Akhtar, mother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, was taken to jati Umra. Strict security arrangements were made during the funeral prayers at the football ground of Sharif Medical City.
Begum Shamim Akhtar’s body reached Lahore early in the morning from London, Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz received the body, Begum Shamim Akhtar’s body was shifted to Lahore by Flight 259. It is worth mentioning here that Begum Shamim Akhtar had passed away in London on 22 November. Begum Shamim Akhtar’s body reached Lahore early in the morning from London.
On the other hand, Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz were released on parole for 5 days for the funeral of Begum Shamim Akhtar. According to the government notification, Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz have been released from November 27 to December 1.
In a telephone call, Nawaz Sharif directed Shahbaz Sharif to take care of his health.
After her release, Maryam Nawaz telephoned Shahbaz Sharif to offer her condolences on the death of her grandmother. She was of the view that government was politicizing the death of her grandmother but PML(N) has never misrepresented anyone.
