Pakistan Muslim League-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari deliberated on the prevailing political situation in the country, the sources privy to the development said on Saturday.
The sources said that both Nawaz and Zardari discussed the matter of political collaboration to form the next government. The independents who won the elections also came under discussion.
However, both the leaders did not reach any important decision so far.
But the sources said that an important meeting is expected between the leaders of the PML-N and the PPP in Lahore on Sunday.
The meeting took place after Shehbaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held a meeting at the residence of Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Lahore. The sources said that the PML-N and the PPP agreed to work together and form a coalition government.
“The MQM-P leaders have also been asked to cooperate in the given situation for formation of a coalition government,” said the sources, adding that the MQM-P leaders would reach in Lahore on Saturday night to meet the Sharif brothers.
Earlier in the day, Nawaz Sharif directed Shehbaz Sharif to contact the independents to invite them to join the PML-N in the process to form the government. The PML-N supremo also asked Shehbaz Sharif to reach out to all political parties to take them into confidence over the political situation. He gave these directions while chairing an important meeting at Jati Umra on Saturday. Nawaz Sharif emphasized that he should be informed wherever his presence is required.
“The PML-N has also announced the formation of a committee for engaging with successful independent candidates in the general elections,” said the sources.
They said that Senator Ishaq Dar would lead the committee while Rana Sanaullah, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Saad Rafique were also part of it.
They said that during the meeting, there was a discussion on the possibility of appointing Shahbaz Sharif as the head of Punjab province if PML-N formed the government in the Center.
Furthermore, deliberation was also made on placing Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shahbaz at the center. It was advised to Nawaz Sharif by senior leadership that under Shahbaz Sharif’s leadership, Punjab could progress significantly if given the opportunity.
