Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has pledged to resolve traders’ issues and bolster industrial growth during his visit to the Federation House. The minister emphasized the Sindh government’s commitment to supporting traders, highlighting those empowering businesses is essential for job creation and economic stability.
Minister Shah stated that the Chief Minister has also met with traders to address their concerns. He underscored the importance of operational industries in providing employment and assured that the government is aligned with industrialists on energy issues, including load shedding and overbilling. In a significant policy stance, Shah opposed the imposition of taxes on solar energy solutions, arguing that such a move would be inappropriate. Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nisar Hussain Shah invited traders to participate in public-private partnerships and announced the allocation of land for two solar parks in Karachi—one in Malir and another in the western part of the city. Similar projects are planned for other provinces. Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nisar Hussain Shah criticized the federal government for not supporting free electricity for households consuming up to 300 units and expressed hope that solar taxation would not be implemented.
He noted that Sindh provides affordable electricity to the national grid, with Thar coal offering power at Rs 5.50 per unit. During his meeting with Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) President Atif Ikram Sheikh and other business leaders, Shah discussed the obstacles to renewable energy adoption and reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. He highlighted the need for cooperation to lower the production costs for industries and ensure uninterrupted power supply.
The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) appreciated the government’s initiatives and called for further collaboration to address the rising energy costs and production challenges faced by industries. Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nisar Hussain Shahassured them of continuous support and stressed the significance of Karachi as the economic heart of Pakistan.
