Syed NajmiAlam, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh for Livestock and Settlements, assumed the role of Chairman at the Karachi Fisheries Harbor Authority (KFHA) on Tuesday. During his visit, he convened a session focusing on crucial reforms and matters concerning the department.

Alam emphasized the need for the Sindh government to impose restrictions on fishing during June and July to boost fish populations. He proposed financial assistance for fishermen affected by the fishing ban period, outlining plans for a support package to be presented to the Sindh government.

In discussions with fish importers and traders within the Karachi harbor limits, Alam solicited suggestions on lifting the ban imposed on fish imports, especially those originating from the European Union. He sought recommendations on necessary actions to address the restriction on fish imports and vowed to collaborate with stakeholders on this issue.

Alam issued stringent directives regarding security arrangements at the Karachi Fisheries Harbor, emphasizing the need for robust security measures and the establishment of a comprehensive security system. Furthermore, he evaluated the cleanliness arrangements at the Karachi Fisheries Harbor and issued directives for further improvement, pledging to present a comprehensive master plan incorporating stakeholders’ recommendations within a week at the Chief Minister’s office.

During the meeting, Ali GulSanjrani, the MD of Karachi Fisheries Harbor, briefed Advisor NajmiAlam, along with his assistants and staff, on enhancing the functionality of the harbor and committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to implement the proposed master plan effectively.
