ISLAMABAD – National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has unveiled facial recognition-based biometric verification, a move that will provide relief to citizens facing difficulties in fingerprint verification.
This new system is aimed at citizens, particularly the elderly or those with medical conditions, who had previously faced challenges during fingerprint verification. With this development, the issue of fingerprint verification will be eliminated for these individuals.
A spokesperson from NADRA stated that, under the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi, several measures were implemented.
One key change includes expanding the definition of biometric verification through amendments to national identification card laws. This will now be available via the Pak ID mobile app, allowing for biometric verification using facial recognition.
Launch Date
Starting from January 20, all NADRA centers will offer a biometric verification certificate based on facial recognition.
Citizens will be able to obtain this certificate for a small fee if they face issues with fingerprint verification.
Facial Recognition Biometric Certificate Features
The certificate will include the citizen’s photo, CNIC number, name, father’s name, unique tracking ID, and QR code. The certificate will be valid for seven days.
NADRA is fully prepared to implement this system and has already requested the relevant governmental and private institutions to take necessary actions. Any complaints regarding the availability of this service after January 20 will be directed to the concerned authorities.
