LAHORE – National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday said he would not allow any remarks in parliament against Pakistan, the judiciary, or the armed forces, stressing that all debate must remain within the constitutional framework.
Speaking during a visit to the National College of Arts (NCA), Sadiq praised the institution as a leading university with a strong national reputation, highlighting the creative and research-oriented work of its students.
The speaker said he does not align himself with either the government or the opposition, adding that his role is to act impartially as the custodian of the House. He noted that peaceful protest is a democratic right, but warned that violence, arson, vandalism, or the presence of weapons is unacceptable and a cause for concern.
Sadiq reiterated that no one would be permitted to speak against Pakistan in the National Assembly. He added that discussions targeting the judiciary, judges, or the armed forces would also not be allowed, and only constitutionally permissible debate would be permitted on the floor of the House.
He said he consults with the Prime Minister regularly and is not restricted in performing his duties. Referring to opposition leader Mahmood Achakzai, Sadiq said political affiliation would not matter if remarks were made against the country.
The speaker also claimed that Pakistan’s economy is strengthening, stating that foreign exchange reserves have reached $40 billion. He added that Pakistan maintains friendly relations with the United States, China, Russia, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, and remarked that mafias exist in every country and confronting them is the responsibility of the people.
