ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly (NA) on Friday witnessed a stormy session on Friday as it passed seven ordinances amidst opposition uproar.

Chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, the NA session encountered dissent from opposition benches as the government tabled seven ordinances for extension in the lower house of Parliament.

Amid the chaos, the opposition members ripped copies of the agenda.

PTI leader Omar Ayub labeled the session as “unlawful”  and criticized the government’s rush in presenting seven ordinances. He questioned the haste, stating that neither they nor the members of the treasury benches had seen the ordinances presented for approval.

The ordinances approved by the NA include amendments to the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation Amendment Ordinance 2023, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation 2023, Pakistan Postal Services Management Board Ordinance 2023, National Highway Authority Amendment Bill 2023, Privatisation Commission Amendment Ordinance 2023, and Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance 2023. Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar presented these ordinances.

Besides it, the National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution denouncing Israeli aggression against Palestinians.

The resolution, presented by Shazia Marri, condemned the continuous Israeli attacks, which have claimed over thirty thousand Palestinian lives since October last year.

The resolution urged the federal government to take proactive steps to push the international community towards enforcing a ceasefire in Gaza. Additionally, the House offered condolences for the Palestinians martyred in Gaza.

Earlier, five newly elected members of women-reserved seats were sworn in as MNAs. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq administered the oath.
