Murad conveys Sindh’s water woes to PM
The Sindh government on Wednesday removed Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar as Sindh’s Inspector General of Police and posted Additional Inspector General Dr Kamran Fazal as the acting police chief of the province.
According to a notification, Mahar, a grade-22 officer who was appointed as Sindh’s police chief in February 2020, has been directed to report to the Establishment Division.
In a separate notification from Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Sohail Rajput, Dr Kamran Fazal, a grade-21 officer presently serving as the head of police training, was assigned to hold the “acting charge of the post of Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Karachi until further orders”.
Dr Fazal has previously served as the AIG Sukkur Region as well.
The transfer of the police chief comes as Karachi has been hit by a spate of terror attacks. Three bomb blasts have been reported in the city in as many weeks.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad and conveyed reservations of the province over injustices meted out by IRSA with regard to water supply.
The chief minister apprised the PM about the severe water shortage the people and farmers are facing in Sindh. “IRSA is involved in unjust water supply,” he said and demanded of PM Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate action against officials involved in it.
The prime minister assured Shehbaz Sharif of addressing his concerns on water scarcity.
The chief minister also discussed the law and order situation during the meeting and said that the provincial government was digging deep to unearth causes behind the recent spate of bombings in Karachi.
Shehbaz Sharif assured all out support from Centre for dealing with the menace of terrorism. The two also discussed deaths of Chinese nationals in Karachi suicide attack. Matters related to the appointment of a new IG Sindh also came under discussion during the meeting.
