Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the Prof. Hashmat Lodi Youth Development Center at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) on Thursday, a facility aimed at equipping young people with tools for education, employment, and personal growth. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister celebrated SMIU’s historical importance as the alma mater of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other national icons.
He commended the institution for its 140-year contribution to producing visionary leaders, freedom fighters, and scholars, lauding its dedication to academic excellence. The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Chairman Sindh HEC Prof. Tariq Rafi, Vice Chancellor NED Dr. Hashmat Lodhi, Vice Chancellor SMIU Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, Secretary Universities & Boards Abbas Baloch, Secretary HEC Moin Khan, and Haji Hanif Tayab.
The Chief Minister paid homage to the late Prof. Hashmat Lodi, highlighting his pioneering achievements as an educator, quizmaster, athlete, and media personality. “Prof. Lodi’s legacy will inspire generations to come, and this youth development centre stands as a testament to his vision and values,” said CM. Shah also commended Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai for SMIU’s recent advancements, including a 200 percent rise in student enrollment over the past three years, the establishment of a Hi-tech computer lab, an AI lab, and the Allama I.I. Kazi Library.
He noted SMIU’s successful hosting of 11 international conferences as a reflection of its growing stature. The Chief Minister underlined the importance of extracurricular activities, emphasizing how student societies dedicated to debates, arts, community service, literature, science, and sports contribute to building teamwork, discipline, and a competitive spirit.
“These activities ensure the holistic development of students, going beyond academics,” he added. Murad Shah reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to education and youth empowerment, urging students to take full advantage of the new center’s facilities. “Your success is vital to the progress of Sindh and Pakistan. Together, we will create a prosperous and forward-thinking province where education, innovation, and opportunities thrive,” he concluded
