Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce Mian Aslam Iqbal has said that a comprehensive security plan has been formulated to maintain law and order during Muharram. He said that foolproof security will be provided to Majalis and Ashura processions.
He stated this while chairing a meeting held in Committee Room of Punjab Investment Board on Tuesday during which security and other arrangements in the provincial capital regarding Muharram were reviewed.
Mian Aslam Iqbal informed that the Punjab chief minister has tasked him with looking after security and other arrangements for Ashura-i-Muharram in the provincial capital.
He said that there will be held 3,866 gatherings and more than 400 mourning processions in the City, adding that a monitoring room has been set up for monitoring CCTV cameras in the City.
The provincial minister directed the MD Wasa to extend working hours of tube wells installed in the City till Muharram 10.
He said that peace committees should be fully activated and scholars of different schools of thought should be contacted. The Lahore Waste Management Company should keep an eye on the sanitation situation.
Mian Aslam Iqbal said that instead of relying only on Lesco, there should be an alternative system of lighting.
Volunteers should also be fully mobilized for security. He said that special attention should be paid to the security of sensitive areas. Arrangements should be made in a manner to avoid misunderstanding at any level.
The CCPO Lahore said that best security arrangements have been made for Muharram and 600 additional CCTV cameras have been installed in the city.
Additional Commissioner Coordination, Director Wasa and officers of LWMC and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
