Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan has threatened the coalition government that it would be compelled to ‘take its own decisions’ if the ruling party of Sindh would not keep its promises made to them ahead of joining the Pakistan Democratic Movement coalition for no-confidence motion against ex-prime minister Imran Khan.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, MQM-P leader and former Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar said that MQM-P accepted two ministries on the insistence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Akhtar added that MQM-P has clarified to the premier that it would not go with the government if Pakistan People’s Party did not implement the agreement in true letter and spirit and would put its case before the party’s Rabta (Coordination) Committee.
He once again warned that they would look for their options if the prevailing situation continued. He said that the premier has promised them that he would ensure PPP carries through.
Akhtar said that the people would not embrace the defeat of MQM through
gerrymandering. He added that the people of Karachi would not accept forged census results.
Talking about LB polls in Sindh held on unday, Waseem Akhtar said that massive rigging was happening in the local bodies elections in the interior part of Sindh, adding that it was the same fear against which MQM-P had approached the high court.
He said that dacoits have kidnapped the administration officials while the ballot boxes have been taken away by activists of a political party. He said the firing and assault incidents during the by-polls are other than that.
Akhtar demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan to immediately stop polling in Nawabshah, Sukkur, and Mirpur Khas and sought time from the chief election commissioner so that they could tell them the ground realities of the interior Sindh.
Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on Sunday invited Muttahida Qaumi Movement-P for a meeting with him for the removal of their reservations on the local bodies’ elections in Sindh.
Sikandar said that the MQM-P’s concerns regarding the local bodies’ elections, electoral rolls and the demarcation of constituencies in Sindh would be removed.
