Motorway gang-rape case accused confesses to crime

In a major development in the Ring Road gang-rape case, the anti-terrorism court sent the accused Shafqat to jail on judicial remand. The investigating officer produced the accused in the anti-terrorism court after his confession. Judicial Magistrate Nuzhat Jabeen recorded the statement of the accused. The accused involved in the case, Shafqat alias Baga, pleaded guilty. The magistrate recorded the statement of accused Shafqat under tight security. Accused Shafqat, while recording the statement of 164 before the court, admitted that he committed the crime at the behest of Abid Malhi.
It may be recalled that a case has been registered against accused Shafqat in Gujjarpura police station under provisions of kidnapping, rape, robbery and terrorism. Yesterday, Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta remanded Abid Malhi, the main accused in the motorway abuse case, in police custody for 15 days.
The accused was produced in the court on the expiry of judicial remand after the identification parade. The court questioned the accused that he wanted to say something. Abid Malhi said that he had not met his family members, wife and children. He did not know where they were. The court ruled that a meeting during the identification parade was not possible under the law. Police requested 30 days physical remand but the court remanded the accused in police custody for 15 days.
