Mother of PAL’s PRO passes away

Mother of Tariq Shahid, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) passed away on Thursday after a brief illness. Jameela Parveen, 90, was widow of noted humorist and poet Mehboob Azmi. Her funeral prayer was held at the H-8 graveyard Thursday evening and was attended by noted poets, writers, academicians, the PAL colleagues and friends of Tariq Shahid.
Among the noted persons who had come to attend her Namaz-e-Janaza included former chairmen of PAL Dr Qasim Bughio, Iftikhar Arif and Dr Inamul Haq Javed, poets Mehboob Zafar, Wafa Chishti, Khaleequr Rehman who is also Secretary of Halqa-e-Arbab-Zauq, writer Hameed Qaisar, Secretary of the Islamabad Club Anwar Raza, Hamid Ali, Masood Hashmi, Malik Mehar Ali, and oth-
ers.
While talking to Pakistan Observer, Tariq Shahid who has recently retired from the PAL and has undergone operation of his legs, said his mother was a kind, God-fearing lady who kept the family united and “never let us miss our father after he passed away back in 2009.”
For me and my younger brother Muhammad Arif Qureshi it is indeed great loss, he said.
Jameela Parveen’s Rasm-e-Qul (Rasm-e-Dua) will be held on Dec 19 (Saturday) after Asar prayer at Tariq Shahid’s residence house no. 4-D, Khayaban-e-Suharwardi, G-6/4, Islamabad.
