More monsoon rains, gusty winds likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – More monsoon rains and gusty winds are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday with occasional gaps.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate most parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails over northern parts of the country.

Under these conditions, more intermittent monsoon rains and gusty winds are likely in the twin cities, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday night and the next two days. Heavy falls are also likely in northeastern/southern Balochistan, Karachi, Sindh, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast/south Punjab and Kashmir.

Torrential rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Dera Ghazi Khan, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Loralai, Sibbi, Harnai, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Jhal Magsi, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Kech, Panjgur, Jacobabad, Qamber Shahdad Kot, Larkana, Dadu, Jamshoro, Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujrat and Kashmir. Downpours may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Shikarpur and Khairpur from tonight to August 05. Landslides may disrupt traffic in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 31-33°C on Monday and 32-34°C on Tuesday.

Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 32-34°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and Balochistan during the last 24 hours.

Nokkundi and Bunji remained the hottest places in the country where the maximum temperature was recorded at 41°C. Maximum temperature in Okara and Chilas was recorded at 39°C.

In Islamabad, maximum temperature was recorded at 33°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 73 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, maximum temperature was recorded at 33°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 56 per cent.
