Mobile internet suspended in Quetta ahead of PTI showdown

Mobile Internet Suspended In Quetta Ahead Of Pti Showdown

QUETTA – Mobile internet shutdown rocked Balochistan capital Quetta since last night, due to “security reasons,” leaving residents cut off from communication and in confusion.

Red Zone in the city remains tightly sealed, heightening tensions in the provincial capital of the restive region. Adding to the clampdown, the Balochistan Home Department has imposed Section 144, banning all gatherings of five or more people, rallies, sit-ins, and even the display of weapons for 30 days.

Political observers say these unprecedented steps mark one of the most severe pre-emptive crackdowns on PTI in province, sparking controversy and public debate.

The city remains on high alert as citizens and political activists closely watch developments in the coming hours.

The development comes ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally, with Quetta authorities have reportedly flooded the Hockey Ground and cut off mobile internet services to prevent the gathering.

PTI announced a massive public rally at the Hockey Ground near the city’s Red Zone, but the district administration denied permission and took drastic measures, including releasing water at the venue and sealing off all roads with containers.

Balochistan faces real and serious security threats from multiple outfits as armed militants groups like the Baloch Liberation Army carry out attacks on government installations, convoys, and public gatherings, while extremist factions and sectarian tensions add further risks in urban centers.

Preventive measures like suspending mobile internet, imposing Section 144, sealing roads, and flooding potential rally sites are aimed at reducing the risk of violent incidents and maintaining public safety.
