The National Assembly on Monday was informed that inefficiency, mismanagement and corruption have ruined the entire power sector of the country, which has resulted in prolonged load shedding.
These revelations were made by Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari while responding to a point of order in the National Assembly. Like politics, he said the power sector has also been affected since long. He said provision of uninterrupted power supply was not possible without addressing the issue of line losses and electricity theft.
In some parts of the country, people proud over power theft. He confessed that discos employees were involved in power theft, however, it all required proper cooperation among all public representatives.
He said Pakistan cannot afford a loss of Rs700 billion in the power sector and we have to improve the performance of power distribution companies to control losses. The Minister said it was responsibility of all of us, irrespective of political affiliation, to play our due role to control power theft.
He said the provincial governments will have to extend their cooperation in this respect. In this regard the minister said he met with CM Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and he assured to cooperate with federal government in power theft issue. This is win win situation for all parties if such type of political cooperation continues the situation would be under control. Without controlling power theft, 24 hours power supply was impossible which badly affect economic growth.
