In the relentless war on terrorism, the country’s security forces continue to render sacrifices to ensure safety and security of the nation. This incident serves as a stark reminder of persistent threat posed by terrorism. Seven brave Pakistan Army personnel, including two officers, laid down their lives in a gallant encounter with terrorists in the area of Mir Ali in North Waziristan District on Saturday morning.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the attack orchestrated by a group of six terrorists, targeted a security forces’ post. Despite valiant efforts by troops to thwart initial intrusion, terrorists rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the post and also executing multiple suicide bombings. This resulted in collapse of a portion of the building and martyrdom of soldiers. Among the fallen heroes were Lieutenant Colonel Syed Kashif Ali and Captain Muhammad Ahmed Badar, who led their troops from the front and made ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their unwavering bravery and commitment exemplify the spirit of sacrifice ingrained within the Pakistan Army. Their selfless dedication to the nation will forever be remembered and honoured. While commending relentless efforts of security forces in combating terrorism, it is imperative to acknowledge that this latest incident underscores ever-present threat posed by terrorist elements. Despite significant strides in counter-terrorism operations, Pakistan continues to face challenges emanating from neighbouring Afghanistan.

While it is encouraging to note that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar engaged in a telephonic conversation with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, where they both agreed to expand counter-terrorism cooperation it is crucial for Afghan authorities to take decisive action against terrorist organisations, particularly Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) which continue to perpetrate acts of violence within Pakistan’s territory. For lasting peace and stability in the region, it is imperative that Afghanistan takes concrete steps to dismantle terrorist infrastructure operating from its soil. Furthermore, it is incumbent upon federal and provincial governments to diligently implement National Action Plan against terrorism. This comprehensive strategy outlines measures to address the root causes of extremism and enhance security mechanisms to safeguard the nation against terrorist threats. As Pakistan continues to pay the ultimate price in war on terrorism, it is also for international community to join hands in confronting this shared challenge.
