Sindh Minister for Information, Forests and Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that increase in forests and afforestation is inevitable due to increase in temperature due to climate change and increasing environmental pollution.
He expressed these views while visiting plantations under the Forest Department’s Urban Forestry Projects in different parts of the city, including Lyari River, Malir River and Shaheed Benazir Park. Provincial Forest Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on the occasion said that under the special interest and orders of Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh, the entire province of Sindh was being made a clean and green province which would be ideal compared to other provinces of the country. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that the Urban Forestry project is a link in this chain. In the first phase, Karachi and in the second phase, the scope of Urban Forestry will be extended to other cities of the province. Under the Karachi Urban Forestry Project, 10,000 saplings have been planted in Shaheed Benazir Park so far, 40,000 on the banks of Lyari and Malir rivers, thus a total of more than 50,000 saplings have been planted.
He said that Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari not only inaugurated the urban forestry projects by planting trees at all places but also directed to take special measures for the protection and growth of plants at these places. He also visits the project sites from time to time to review the speed and plant protection measures and also gives instructions and guidance. It is committed to be completed and all the concerned officers are performing their duties with special interest in this regard. Provincial Minister for Forests Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that I myself have been appointed to review Urban Forestry project.
