LAHORE – The inaugural session of new Punjab Assembly is set to be held today (Friday) as members-elect of the assembly will be administered the oath.

Speaker Sardar Sibtain Khan will administer the oath to them. Governor Punjab Balighur Rahman on Thursday signed the summary for convening the inaugural session of the provincial assembly.

“The Governor of Punjab received a summary from the Law Department requesting the convening of the provincial assembly session.”

PML-N, which has emerged as largest political party in Punjab, has nominated Maryam Nawaz for the post of chief minister while Malik Ahmed Khan is the strong candidate for the slot of Punjab Assembly speaker.

Meanwhile, PML-N continues to expand its support base by attracting independent members of the Assembly. AhsanRaza Khan (PP-180 Kasur) and Colonel (retd) GhazanfarQureshi (PP-128 Jhang) recently joined the party, bolstering its numbers.

These independent members reportedly made their decision after consulting with their constituents and expressed their desire to contribute to Punjab’s development under PML-N’s leadership. Maryam Nawaz warmly welcomed them and outlined her comprehensive plans for the province, focusing on alleviating public concerns and fostering progress.
