Srinagar
In occupied Kashmir, the detention of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former puppet Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, under draconian law Public Safety Act (PSA), was on Friday extended by three more months.
In a brief order, the district magistrate of Srinagar handed over the continuation of her custody at her residence, hours before her present term under the PSA was to expire.
Mehbooba Mufti was initially detained on August 5 last year when the Modi-led Indian government abrogated the special status of occupied Kashmir and placed it under military siege. Later on February 5, this year, she was slapped with the PSA.
Having spent over eight months in detention at two government facilities designated as sub-jails, she was shifted to her home on April 7 in a partial relief.
Moreover, India has designated 44 new officers to seize land and properties of pro-freedom youth and activists under the black law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), in occupied Kashmir.
Reports appearing in the media said that India had decided to take stern action against the Kashmiri people who are directly or indirectly involved in pro-freedom activities. In this regard, the reports said, Indian Home Ministry has decided to take immediate steps for execution of the UAPA, which was passed by the Indian parliament to suppress the freedom struggles.
The reports revealed that the newly designated officers had been tasked with identifying all pro-freedom youth and activists and seizing their properties.
It is to mention here that India’s notorious National Investigating Agency (NIA) has seized a number of properties belonging to Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders and activists in recent years.—KMS
