Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, held a meeting with Pakistan Football League (PFL) Chairman, FarhanJunejo, at his office. Junejo briefed the Mayor on PFL’s future programs designed to support football enthusiasts in Pakistan, especially the financially constrained youth dreaming of making their mark on the soccer field.
This was the second meeting between Mayor Wahab and the PFL team, following a previous reception for former English football star and PFL’s Brand Ambassador Michael Owen, along with other renowned international players. The players visited the Kakri Football Ground to inspire local talent. Mayor Wahab welcomed the former football stars and applauded PFL’s efforts to enable fans to interact with their idols.
He described this initiative as a revolutionary step towards reviving football in Pakistan. “Football is one of the most beloved sports in Pakistan, with tremendous fan-following, especially in Karachi’s Lyari area, known as Mini Brazil for its residents’ passion for the Brazilian national team,” remarked Mayor Wahab. He added that the Sindh Government would fully support PFL’s mission to revive football, which would also boost Pakistan’s sports economy.
FarhanJunejo expressed his gratitude for the mayor’s support and appreciation for PFL’s vision. He discussed ideas for expanding the KMC Football Stadium in Karachi, which could serve millions of local football players. “PFL, with government support, will ensure top-notch facilities for emerging players from all cities, aiming to see Pakistan’s youth represent the country.
