In a key meeting chaired by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Saturday presided a crucial meeting with senior officials from the Estate, Land, Anti-Encroachment, and Council Departments to formulate a comprehensive strategy to tackle encroachments in the city. The meeting was attended by the Municipal Commissioner of KMC, Deputy Commissioner South, SSP South, SSP East, and heads of relevant KMC departments.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the need for a robust and coordinated approach to eliminate encroachments across Karachi. He instructed officials to closely monitor buildings under construction within KMC limits to determine their legal status. “Immediate action should be taken against illegal constructions,” he stated. He stressed the importance of clearing sidewalks, particularly in the South and East districts, asserting, “Pedestrians have the right to walk on footpaths.” Mayor Wahab pointed out that encroachments not only disrupt the city’s order but also lead to traffic accidents. He directed the KMC to collaborate with district administrations to conduct operations against encroachments.

“Encroachments around parks, playgrounds, and places of worship are unacceptable,” he added. Mayor Wahab also highlighted the issue of makeshift shops created by placing containers on footpaths and called for their removal to restore pedestrian rights and improve urban order.
