The month of May 2025 has been especially significant for Pakistan in terms of its image and stature, both regionally and internationally.

On the one hand, our armed forces showcased unparalleled professionalism and military might by delivering a bloody nose to Indian forces, while on the other hand, nation’s sporting glory was rekindled when Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea, bringing immense pride and joy to millions across Pakistan.

Nadeem’s triumph ended a 50-year gold medal drought for Pakistan at the Asian Athletics Championship.

This victory follows his historic performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he set a new Olympic record with a monstrous throw of 92.97 metres, firmly establishing himself as one of the world’s best.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif aptly noted at a ceremony in Quetta that Pakistan is indeed flying high these days, a sentiment that resonates deeply with all Pakistanis.

These twin triumphs in defence and sports not only uplift the national spirit but also project Pakistan’s growing strength and potential on the global stage.

Rising nations often make their mark through outstanding performances in various sports disciplines.

Sports are a powerful tool for image building and unity, reflecting talent, discipline and determination of a country’s youth.

For Pakistan, harnessing this potential is crucial to showcasing its true capabilities to the world.

To achieve sustained success, there is an urgent need to reform sports federations and associations, improve infrastructure and extend maxi-mum support to athletes.

This will enable Pakistan’s youth to excel and bring home more lau-rels, just like Arshad Nadeem.
