LAHORE – An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a case related to the May 9 violence while awarding 10-year prison sentences to Dr. Yasmin Rashid and several other PTI leaders.
The verdict was announced in the case pertaining to the attack on the GOR Club Chowk gate on May 9.
The court ordered the acquittal of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, declaring that the prosecution failed to establish charges against him.
At the same time, the ATC sentenced Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmood ur Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry and Umar Sarfraz Cheema to 10 years of imprisonment each in the case.
The case was registered following incidents of violence at multiple locations on May 9 last year, during which public and government property was damaged.
