Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday expressed grief over the tragic assassination of Maulana Adil Khan, terming it “an attempt to foment unrest by Pakistan’s enemies.”
Taking to Twitter, the DG ISPR said that the army chief expressed grief over the killing and had directed all-out support to the civil administration to bring the criminals to justice.
“Expressing grief on the assassination of renowned religious scholar Maulana Adil in Karachi, COAS strongly condemned the incident and termed it an attempt to foment unrest by Pakistan’s enemies. He directed all out support to civil administration to bring the criminals to justice,” he tweeted.
The prominent religious scholar, along with his driver, was shot dead on Saturday in Karachi’s Shah Faisal area, with Prime Minister Imran Khan chalking it up as “an attempt by India to create sectarian conflict across the country”.
Meanwhile, funeral prayers of renowned religious scholar Maulana Dr Adil Khan were offered, following which the deceased was laid to rest on Sunday.
Maulana’s funeral prayers were offered at Jamia Farooqia Hub River Road Phase II. Besides scholars and other religious figures, a large number of attendees included students and devotees of the late scholar participated in the funerals.
Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani, Maulana Hanif Jalandhari, Senator Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Maulana Rashid Soomro, Superintendent of Jamia Banuria Mufti Noman, and Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman also attended the funeral prayers.
Maulana Adil was buried at Farooqia University next to his father Maulana Saleemullah Khan. Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the case. Police confirmed that geofencing of the site where Maulana Adil was shot dead has been conducted.
