LAHORE – The Punjab Boards Committee of Chairman (PBCC) has taken a slew of important decisions after a cheating scandal during secondary schools certificate part I (Class 9) exams was unearthed.
In late March, Punjab’s Minister for School Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat said his team caught several dummy students during a surprise visit to an exam center in Sanda area of city.
Students’ papers were canceled while five staffers of the examination hall were arrested. The minister had also accused both the examination center and school officials of being involved in the cheating.
The Punjab government took serious notice of the illegal practices during examinations and formed a cabinet committee to investigate the matter.
The committee directed the PBCC to take measures to curb such practices in future examinations. In line with the directives, the boards committee took various important decisions.
The PBCC decided against hiring private invigilators for the examinations of matric and intermediate exams. It also decided to select schools, colleges and wedding halls for the papers instead of establishing centres in narrow alleys.
It has also been decided to use water-mark on questions papers in order to prevent its leakage before the examination. The committee also ordered the officials to prepare a list of those who failed to perform their duties diligently.
