Maryam remembers Kulsoom on her 4th death anniversary

The late wife of three times’ former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz’s 4th death anniversary is being observed Sunday.

On her mother’s death anniversary, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz tweeted: “On my dearest Ami’s 4th death anniversary, my message to those who are blessed to have their mothers around, is to value them while you have them because the pain of reaching for her hand & not finding it there is the pain you can never move on from. May you dwell in peace Amin.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz passed away on September 11, 2018 in London after fighting a prolonged battle with cancer. She was buried in the Jati Umrah graveyard in Lahore.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was also the president of Muslim League-N and organized the party during the exile of Mian Nawaz Sharif. She was born in March 1948 in the walled city of Lahore and was the grand-daughter of the famous Gama wrestler of the subcontinent.

She got married to Nawaz Sharif in 1971. They have two sons, Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, and two daughters, Maryam Nawaz and Asma Nawaz.

She got the honour of becoming the first lady for the first time on

November 1, 1990 and on February 17, 1997 for the second time and when Mian Nawaz Sharif became the prime minister again in 2013; she became the first lady for the third time.

When General Pervez Musharraf ended the government of Mian Nawaz Sharif on October 12, 1999, she not only organized the party bravely but also faced Musharraf’s dictatorship defiantly. She remained the PML-N president till 2000.
