Pakistan s undisputed victory in the short war and diplomatic excellence has put the country at a place of prominence in the strategic landscape of the globe. It is rightly said that there are moments in history that alter the destiny of nations and redefine their place in the world. Nations are not transformed merely by the passage of time; they are transformed by their response to crises and the courage, unity and maturity they display in adversity and that is what Pakistan did last year.
For Pakistan, Marka-e-Haq has emerged as one such defining moment that not only tested the nation’s resilience but also elevated its strategic relevance on the global stage. In fact, it was not merely a military confrontation; it was a national moment of rediscovery that restored confidence, strengthened deterrence, elevated Pakistan s prestige and reshaped international perception.
The manner in which Pakistan responded to India s unprovoked aggression,
unleashed on the basis of unsubstantiated and fabricated allegations following the Pahalgam incident, fundamentally changed global perception about the country. Before May 2025, Pakistan was frequently subjected to negative narratives and was often associated with terrorism and instability. However, the events of Marka-e-Haq and Pakistan s calibrated yet decisive response shattered many of those stereotypes. Over the last one year, Pakistan s image has undergone a remarkable transformation. Today, the country stands at a far stronger diplomatic and strategic position.
This transformation was rightly highlighted by DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry while addressing a news conference on the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq. He outlined ten strategic consequences of the conflict, emphasizing how Pakistan emerged as a geopolitically significant and responsible middle power. Pakistan is no longer viewed merely through the prism of regional tensions but as an important state capable of maintaining stability in a volatile region. World leaders and influential international journals have increasingly acknowledged Pakistan s growing role in regional stability and its expanding diplomatic outreach. From sustained engagement with major powers to widening defence cooperation with friendly countries, Pakistan’s international relevance has strengthened considerably.
Frequent remarks by US President Donald Trump appreciating Pakistan s constructive regional role further reinforced this diplomatic momentum. Similarly, the warm reception accorded to our leadership in countries such as Turkiye and Azerbaijan following the success of Marka-e-Haq underscored the country s enhanced stature across the Muslim world and beyond. Pak-Saudi de-fence pact and rising global interest in Pakistan s indigenous defence industry, particularly the JF-17 Thunder aircraft, further illustrate the growing confidence in Pakistan s military and technological capabilities on the international stage.
Marka-e-Haq was indeed a comprehensive victory for Pakistan on three critical fronts: military, diplomatic and narrative. On all these fronts, Pakistan demonstrated maturity, preparedness and strategic clarity.
On the military front, Pakistan s armed forces displayed extraordinary professionalism, readiness and technological capability. The seamless integration between Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy became one of the defining features of the conflict. The success of multi-domain operations demonstrated that our armed forces are fully prepared for the changing character of modern warfare. It is rightly said that warfare today extends beyond conventional battlefields into cyberspace, information war-fare and cognitive domains. Pakistan proved that it possessed the capability not only to defend itself but also to dominate across multiple operational theatres.
At the centre of this success was the leadership of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, whose calm, resolute and strategic leadership during the crisis earned widespread admiration within Pakistan and abroad. Particularly remarkable was the role played by the PAF under the leadership of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu. Our air force demonstrated extraordinary operational excellence that stunned not only the adversary but also military observers around the world. It executed highly coordinated multi-domain operations with precision and sophistication, effectively neutralizing some of India s most advanced aerial and defence assets including most modern Rafales. The PAF s indigenous skill chain, advanced electronic warfare capabilities and cyber operations became a defining symbol of growing military modernization. What made Pakistan s response even more significant was the restraint with which force was exercised. Pakistan possessed the capability to inflict even greater harm on the enemy, yet it acted responsibly and in a calibrated manner to avoid uncontrolled escalation. The psychological impact of the PAF s actions on the Indian Air Force was immense. The myth of invincibility constructed around India s advanced defence acquisitions suffered serious damage. Air Chief Marshal Sidhu recently rightly observed that the world witnessed a new dimension of aerial warfare during Marka-e-Haq. Indeed Pakistan s success was the result of years of preparations, indigenous innovation and institutional professionalism.
Equally important was Pakistan s victory on the narrative front. In today s world, wars are fought not only with weapons but also with information. The battle for global perception often becomes as important as developments on the battlefield itself. Pakistan succeeded because it consistently presented facts before the public and the international community. On the other hand, the Indian media s conduct drew ridicule from numerous international analysts and experts who criticized the spread of misinformation and propaganda. Several global commentators openly questioned the credibility of sensationalist reporting emanating from Indian television channels. Such irresponsible media behaviour only further damaged India s image and exposed the dangers of hyper-nationalistic propaganda. Today, Pakistan stands at a far stronger position than it was before May 2025, with its growing role as a net security stabilizer earning increasing international trust and recognition. This enhanced diplomatic stature is also evident from Pakistan s role in facilitating engagement between the United States and Iran, helping bring both sides to the negotiating table. Such developments reflect the confidence that major powers now place in Islamabad s balanced, constructive and responsible diplomacy, further rein-forcing Pakistan s significance in regional and global affairs.
There is also growing optimism that this strategic and diplomatic positivity will eventually produce significant economic dividends. As Pakistan s global standing improves, opportunities for trade, investment, exports including that related to defense and broader economic partnerships are likely to expand as well.
One year later, the impact of Marka-e-Haq continues to shape Pakistan s trajectory. It also reminds us of the foresight of great Sufi saints, including Syed Shah Abdul Latif Kazmi, popularly known as Bari Imam, who said that a time will come when decisions shaping the course of the world would emerge from this land. That vision no longer belongs to the realm of distant prophecy; it is unfolding as Pakistan assumes an increasingly central role in regional diplomacy, security and the wider global order.
