Mardan cop killed, 5 injured in blast

A police head constable was killed while five people including two passers-by got injured in an explosion at Chamtar police post, Rescue 1122, police and local sources said.

The unidentified accused planted an explosive device under the bridge with the main gate of Chamthar police station, a police post of Saddar police station located at Nasita road which blew up at 10:45 a.m.

killing headconstable Maqsood on the spot while ASI Sohail Khan, constable Fayaz Khan, constable Mohammad Karim and a passer-by identified as Mohammad Ishaq and Halal got injured. The Rescue 1122 team reached the spot and shifted the dead body and injured to Mardan Medical Complex.

Sources added that 8 to10 kg device was used in the explosion. The powerful explosion, which was heard in the surrounding areas badly damaged the main gate and boundary wall of the police post.

Following the explosion, the personnel of law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area while personnel of the Bomb Disposal Unit collected the pieces of evidence from the scene.
