A Lahore citizen has approached a local court seeking renaming of the roads, hospitals, educational institutes and other public places named after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
The petitioner Raza Khan submitted to the court that many hospitals, educational institutes, public parks and roads across Punjab had been named after Nawaz Sharif when they were in rule.
But now, Nawaz Sharif has been convicted of corruption and is a proclaimed offender,” he pointed out.
“Naming public properties / projects after political figure can never be a good idea, especially when a person is declared dishonest and liar by an apex court,” the application read. He requested that the court should order renaming of all public places named after Nawaz Sharif.
The Punjab government through its chief secretary and the secretary local governments has been named as respondents in the application.
