PESHAWAR – A man killed his son after heated arguments about hoisting a PTI flag at his house ahead of the general election 2024 scheduled for February 8, local police said.

According to district police official Naseer Farid, an argument erupted at a family home in the outskirts of Peshawar when a son, who had recently returned from working in Qatar, raised the flag of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party led by former prime minister Imran Khan.

The father opposed the son’s decision to hoist the PTI flag at their residence, but the son refused to take it down and leave PTI.

On this, the father fired a pistol at his 31-year-old son before fleeing the house. The son died on the way to the hospital.

Police are searching for the father, who was affiliated with the nationalist Awami National Party and had previously displayed their flag.
