MAKKAH – A man attempted to jump from an upper floor of the Grand Mosque (Masjidul Haram) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday, sparking a swift response from security forces.
The country’s Ministry of Interior confirmed the incident, stating that a security officer was injured while attempting to break the man’s fall.
According to the Special Force for the Security of the Grand Mosque, the officer’s intervention helped prevent a more severe injury to the individual, but the officer himself sustained injuries during the rescue effort.

Both the man and the security officer were immediately taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The security forces issued an official statement detailing the events, explaining that the individual had attempted to take his own life from one of the upper floors of the mosque. The officer, who was on duty at the time, was injured while trying to prevent the fall.
In response to the situation, the Chief Imam of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Abdur Rahman As Sudais, called on all pilgrims to adhere to the regulations and show respect for the sanctity of the holy site.
He reminded everyone that the preservation of life is a key objective of Islamic law and stressed that self-harm is prohibited, quoting the Quranic verse: “And do not throw yourselves into destruction with your own hands.”
