Malaysian CG assures all-out support to timber traders

Consul General of Malaysia in Karachi Khairul Nazran Abdul Rehman has vowed to boost the timber trade between Pakistan and Malaysia. Addressing a luncheon hosted by Karachi Timber Merchant Group President Sharjeel Goplani and other officials here the other day, he said a delegation of 25 Pak traders will visit Malaysia soon and “We will solve the problems and difficulties of timber traders.” Sharjeel Goplani on the occasion presented a shield to the Malaysian Consul General and expressed his happiness. Timber Merchant Group President Sharjeel Goplani suggested to Malaysian Consul General Khairul Zaman Abdul Rehman that import of timber from Malaysia should be promoted so that we can be self-sufficient in re-export furniture to the world. Pakistan has been importing timber from Malaysia since 1971. At present, 2.2% of timber is being exported from Malaysia to Pakistan in commercial goods. The Malaysian Consul General should personally hold talks with Pakistan and Malaysia at the governmental level to resolve the issues facing timber import and export. Shahid Javed Qureshi, President, Pakistan-Malaysia Friendship Association, said that the Pakistan-Malaysia Friendship Association was playing a bridging role in promoting trade between Pakistan and Malaysia, removing barriers to trade at the diplomatic level between the two countries. To do President Sharjeel Goplani provided details of Malaysian companies that defrauded Pakistani businessmen to the Malaysian Consul General. On the occasion, the Malaysian Consul General assured the traders that he would talk to the Malaysian government to resolve the issue and soon a 25-member delegation of the Timber Merchant Group would visit Malaysia and meet Malaysian government officials and businessmen. President Sharjeel Goplani and General Secretary Hanif Qutub Jodiawala said that Pakistani traders want to increase timber imports from Malaysia from 7.2% to 7%. Malaysia should play its role in this regard. Pakistan wants to save its forests. For the next 20 years, we will be dependent on timber imports, so we have to import timber from other countries Mushtaq Wali Mohammad, convener of the import committee of the Karachi Timber Merchant Group, told the Malaysian Consul General that the timber from Malaysia It is included in the 4407 Category even though it is a raw material. Let the Malaysian government convince Pakistan that the timber import is 4407. It should be removed from the category and included in the raw material and tax should be levied on the raw material and it should play its role in removing the obstacles in importing timber from Malaysia to Pakistan and talk to the government of Pakistan and Malaysia.
