LWMC set to materialise Clean City Dream: Rasheed

Urges citizens to extend cooperation for Eid cleanliness plan Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development Mehmoodur Rasheed has said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has initiated a Clean and Green Pakistan drive and Lahore will be the pioneer city for completion and execution of this vision.

“We appreciate the LWMC for clearing the backlog and heaps of garbage from the City after termination of the contract with international contractors.”

Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development Mehmoodur Rasheed was speaking at a press briefing organised by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) on Tuesday.

On the occasion, Punjab Local Bodies Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal and LWMC Chairman Amjad Awan briefed the media about cleanliness operations, planning and execution.

Talking to the media men, the minister stressed that there is a great need for change in behaviour of people about cleaning of the City.

“Citizens must support the LWMC in its efforts to clean the City on Eid”, he urged, adding that soon the company will initiate volunteer program to engage the youth and propagate awareness to the masses.

The minister claimed that the LWMC has introduced a cost-effective cleanliness plan for a long term, which will help Rs5 billion of the national exchequer.

Mahmoodur Rasheed pledged that the mission of making Lahore one of the cleanest cities of Punjab would be accomplished in the near future. He said that the Local Bodies secretary would remain in the field during the three days of Eidul Azha along with other administrative officer to ensure best cleanliness in the City.

On the occasion, LWMC Chairman Amjad Ali Awan briefed that it is the first Eid, the LWMC is going to act as an operational company after its transition from monitoring.

He said the LWMC Board has played a vital role in strengthening re-organisation of the company.

“Waste bags are being distributed in cattle markets to save environmental deterioration and avoid insanitation in city”, he pointed out.

The chairman further said that all arrangements have been completed for execution of Eid cleanliness operation in the City.
