The Lahore Waste Management Company conducted first ever seminar on “Prospects of Waste Resource Recovery and Waste to Energy.”
Chief guests at the seminar were: Advisor to CM Dr Salman Shah, Secretary LG & CD Noorul Amin Mengal and LWMC Chairman Amjad Ali Awan whereas CEO LWMC Mr. Imran Ali Sultan, Deputy CEO Environment, Health & Safety Expert Mr. Mustafa Ahmed, Professor & Chairman of Department. of Mechanical Engineering, UET Dr Shahid Imran, Managing Partner at HSE Vision Mr. Bilal Mustafa Syed, Urban Planner and Assistant Professor Department of City & Regional Planning, UMT Dr. Hamid Ali Shah, Environment Specialist and CEO, Global Eco-Lab Dr Asim Mahmood, General Manager Planning and projects Dr Kamran Nasir attended the seminar as speakers.
Speaking on the occasion, the Punjab LG & CD secretary stated that despite all odds, the department is working tirelessly to maintain cleanliness in the City, stressing it is need of the hour the department start taking major initiative e.g Waste to energy and waste recovery facility.
Daily waste generation of Lahore is 5,500 tons and LWMC is lifting this waste on daily basis.
In order to dispose of waste in scientist manner, we need to firstly change the behaviour of the community then start adapting to the international solid waste management system. Chairman LWMC stated that the waste is like gold and we should start treating this waste like this.
Our nation has all the capacity to start and run the waste management project. We will take all possible measures by adapting the ideas shared in this seminar.
The LWMC CEO stated that the department is working vigorously to serve the public and making unprecedented arrangements to make a sustainable solid waste management system.
Respected guests also gave multiple suggestions to improve the cleanliness situation of the city by starting different projects like waste to energy, composting, recycling etc. during question and answer session.
During the concluding remarks Chairman LWMC appealed the citizens for their apt cooperation with the department and shared LWMC helpline 1139 and mobile-based application clean Lahore for any waste-related complaint.
