RAWALPINDI – A lieutenant colonel was among six soldiers who were martyred during a gun battle with terrorists in Spinwam area of North Waziristan district, the military‘s media wing said on Saturday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a statement said the exchange of fire between forces and terrorists took place on the night between October 4-5. It added that six terrorists were also killed during the gun fight.

The martyred soldiers have been identified as Lt Col Muhammad Ali Shaukat, Lance Naik Muhammadullah, Akhtar Zaman, Shahidullah, Yousafi and sepoy Jameel Ahmed.

During the gun battle, six terrorists were also killed by security forces.

“Security forces are determined to eradicate the menace of terrorism. Sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our determination,” ISPR said.

Earlier, security forces killed two terrorists and arrested another in Charbagh area of Swat. The military’s media wing said the operation was conducted after receiving intelligence reports and is part of ongoing efforts to weed out terrorism in the country.

ISPR said an exchange of fire occurred during the operation, resulting in the death of two terrorists. Among those killed was Attaullah, alias Mehran, a known terrorist involved in several high-profile attacks. Attaullah was also responsible for a landmine attack on a convoy of foreigners on September 22.

Another terrorist was injured and arrested during the clash. Security forces have intensified the search operation in the area to locate any remaining terrorists, according to ISPR.

The military remains resolute in its commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country. “Security agencies are determined to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from Pakistan,” ISPR reiterated.
