Locking of Jamia Masjid on Shab-e-Barat brazen violation of religious freedom: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar, March 07 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, People Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti, has expressed anguish over the locking of Jamia Masjid Srinagar by the authorities on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat.

Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet said, locking up of Jamia Masjid on the auspicious occasion of Shab-e-Barat is a brazen violation of fundamental rights and religious freedom. May Allah Ta’aala give us strength to get through these tough times, she said.

Earlier, Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar said the authorities have disallowed prayers at the historical mosque.

In a statement, the Anjuman informed that concerned police and administration officials came to the Jamia Masjid Nowhatta and locked the gates of the Masjid at 5.30 pm informing the Anjuman that as per the orders of DC Srinagar no Shab-e-Barat prayers will be allowed to take place at the mosque, today. Anjuman strongly protested the highhandedness of the authorities and called it blatant violation of the religious rights of the people and interference in their religious matters.
