Local Statewide Elections Underway Across All 50 Us States Today

WASHINGTON- The Local and statewide elections commenced across all 50 US states on Tuesday (November 4, 2025), marking a key phase in the country’s domestic political landscape.

Unlike the presidential polls, these elections are being held to choose representatives at the city, district, and state levels for various offices, including mayors, governors, school boards, and state legislatures.

According to the US Election Commission, voting is taking place in major states including Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Texas, California, and Florida. In some states such as Louisiana, Kentucky, and Georgia, elections will be held between November 15 and December 18.

City and local offices

At the city level, voters are electing mayors and council members who oversee local laws, budgeting, transportation, and civic amenities. In New York City, a competitive three-way mayoral race is underway, featuring Muslim candidate Zohran Mamdani among the contenders.

Education boards

School board members responsible for decisions on curriculum design, funding allocation, and education policies are also being elected, with education reform emerging as a central issue in several states.

Governors and state legislatures

Voting is also being held for gubernatorial positions — the top elected offices in each state — as well as lieutenant governors, who serve as deputies and assume charge in the absence of governors.

In addition, voters are electing members of state assemblies and senates, which play a pivotal role in drafting and enacting state laws.

Muslim and South Asian representation

A noticeable number of South Asian and Muslim candidates are contesting this year.

In Virginia, prominent Muslim politician Ghazala Hashmi is running for lieutenant governor. She previously won the Virginia state senate elections twice, first in 2019, becoming the first Muslim woman elected to that office.

Political analysts say the 2025 local elections are expected to significantly influence state-level policymaking, with issues such as education, healthcare and public safety likely to dominate future legislative agendas.
