Pakistan Elect To Bowl First As Intl Cricket Returns To Faisalabad After 17 Years

FAISALABAD – Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first against South Africa in the opening One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series at Iqbal Stadium on Tuesday, marking the return of international cricket to the city after nearly 17 years.

The Iqbal Stadium, once a prominent venue for international fixtures, is hosting all three ODIs of the series, drawing large crowds eager to witness top-level cricket return to Faisalabad.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi is making his debut as ODI captain, leading a side that blends young talent with experienced players. South Africa, on the other hand, is being led by Matthew Breetzke, who has been tasked with guiding a relatively new-look Proteas lineup.

Historically, both teams have played 87 ODIs, with South Africa holding a dominant record — 52 wins compared to Pakistan’s 34 victories.

The match is expected to set the tone for the series, with Pakistan aiming to capitalize on home conditions and strengthen their limited-overs credentials ahead of upcoming international tournaments.
