‘Literacy Policy’ for Punjab launched

Provincial Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Welfare Raja Basharat said that PTI government has taken lead in introducing first-ever “Literacy Policy” in the history of Punjab.
Raja Basharat was addressing the launching ceremony of first ever Punjab Literacy & NFBE policy 2019, arranged by Literacy & NFBE Department at 90 Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, Lahore.
He said, ‘We are fulfilling our promises and establishing that education is among the top priorities of the PTI government. Minister for Literacy & NFBE Department Raja Rashid Hafeez, Secretary Literacy & NFBE Department Ms Sumaira Samad, representatives from the private sector and non-government organizations and stakeholders from different segments of society were present on the occasion.
Raja Basharat further said that the new policy will help in access of education in the remote and far-flung areas. Minister for Literacy & NFBE Department Raja Rashid Hafeez while addressing the ceremony said that the government is determined to achieve 100 percent literacy rate in the province by the year 2030 as to fulfill the constitutional commitments under article 37B & 25A.
He said that the main purpose of this policy is to ensure the alignment and integration with provincial & National constitutional & legal obligations and international commitments for better service delivery. The minister said that enhancing literacy rate is the utmost priority of the government and we shall not leave any stone unturned to achieve that target. He said that the policy guidelines will help us in promoting the public-private partnership which is necessary to achieve the goal of 100 percent literacy rate.
Secretary Literacy Ms Sumaira Samad said that we are proud to launch the First-Ever Punjab Literacy & Non-Formal Education Policy 2019. She added that policy document will help to give a clear direction to the endeavours and support in institutionalizing the efforts with the provincial paradigm. It is pertinent to mention here that the newly shared Literacy policy is encouraging research and development and it infuses the ever needed information communication technology for reaching out maximum public for the cause of education.
