Relief Commissioner and Punjab Disaster Management Authority Chairman Babar Hayat Tarar said that environmental pollution like Corona is also a threat to human life. Corona has become a symbol of fear due to its rapid spread but increasing levels of unhealthy substances in the air are gradually leading to deadly diseases in humans. Our Lifestyle is the most effective weapon to protect against both disasters. Be sure to use face mask, avoid crowds, maintain social connections but with the required distance. Use simple and healthy food. Ensure minimal use of smoke-releasing vehicles in your daily routine. To reduce traffic on the roads, make it a habit to travel in a single vehicle instead of traveling on separate rides, increase activities to eliminate pollution.
These views were expressed by the Relief Commissioner during a review meeting of Covid-19 awareness and Smog control activities under PDMA. The Punjab Relief Commissioner directed the concerned officers to continue uninterrupted monitoring of smog control activities during present wave of Covid -19. Director General Punjab Disaster Management Authority informed the Relief Commissioner that PDMA is constantly monitoring smog control activities as well as ensuring regular distribution under the Ehsas Kifalat program. Rs. 1.785 billion has been distributed among the Corona victims in Punjab so far. The number of beneficiaries of the program in the province has reached 147,353 during the smog control activities 10,739 vehicles, 2,511 industrial units and 1,612 brick kilns have been sealed. In order to end the shutdown, the conversion of brick kilns to modern technology is being ensured at the earliest. During the last 24 hours, 60 kilns have been shifted to modern technology. Since October 20, a total of Rs. 49,997,000 has been fined in pollution control operations. Recommendations of Anti-Smog Committee and Technical Group are being implemented in the concerned departments.
