LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday declared the operation of snooker clubs a lawful and legitimate business, setting aside a trial court order that had directed the closure of a citizen’s snooker club.
Justice Jawad Zafar issued a five-page written verdict on an appeal filed by Muhammad Rashid, annulling the trial court’s decision to shut down the snooker club.
In its ruling, the court observed that running a snooker club is a legal recreational activity and that no law imposes a ban on it.
The judgment stated that under the Constitution, every citizen has the right to conduct a lawful business.
The court further held that billiards and snooker are neither immoral activities nor prohibited under the law, adding that businesses operating within the legal framework cannot be closed for an indefinite period on the basis of vague complaints.
According to the petitioner, he had been operating a snooker club in Sargodha, providing the public with recreational facilities to play billiards and snooker.
